American National Insurance: History

ANICO was founded in 1905 where it is still headquartered today in Galveston, Texas. With its affiliates and subsidiaries it has over five million policyholders and offers services in all fifty states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. It also extends its products and services to American Samoa, which is an unincorporated region in the South Pacific Islands. Not all products and services are available in all locations that are serviced by ANICO. ANICO uses a subsidiary broker called Securities Management & Research, Inc. for its mutual funds and variable products.

Property and Casualty Insurance is available through ANPAC, which was founded in 1973 in Springfield, Missouri. ANPAC, as part of ANICO, has an A rating of Excellence from A.M. Best and an AA- rating of Very Strong from Standard and Poor’s. ANPAC has been recognized by the Ward Group for several continual years for Ward’s 50 Benchmark Company. Out of all the Malcolm Bridge National Quality Program awards distributed, it has given the Missouri Quality Award (MQA) to only one insurance company and that recipient was ANPAC.

ANICO Property & Casualty Insurance

Property and casualty insurance can be purchased for automobiles or homes. Property insurance typically covers the damage or loss of real estate or personal property due to fire, hail, windstorms, and the like and casualty insurance covers legal liability resulting from an at-fault accident for bodily injury or property damage. When you have home insurance you are usually protected against theft and liability as well as some common disasters.

If your home is financed then you are required to carry homeowners insurance. If your home is not financed, you should still consider carrying sufficient coverage to protect your financial investment. Whether your home is financed or owned outright, it is your responsibility to select your insurance provider. This is true even if you are paying for your homeowners insurance through an escrow account as part of your monthly mortgage payment. While your lender expects you to carry the appropriate coverage, it is not his responsibility to help you find affordable rates or applicable discounts. ANPAC offers the Home Safe and Sound® Homeowners Insurance as their standard homeowners insurance policy. Various policies cover contents and dwelling replacement, detached structures, loss of use, medical payments for visiting persons, and personal liability. Some policies also cover credit card forgery as well as additional coverage for computer equipment and certain valuables. You also have the option of increasing your coverage limits or choosing from one of three Signature Series policies.

With the Signature Series you can choose from Platinum, Gold, or Silver. The Silver level covers your primary residence, detached structures, and personal property. It also covers some of the costs of building ordinance, equipment breakdown, identity theft, and water backup. The Gold level adds land coverage for restoration. With the Platinum level you receive higher coverage for all of the above items and you also get limited coverage for fire department service charge, food spoilage, landscaping/tree removal, and mold remediation.

An innovative discount program is the Ca$hBack from ANPAC® program that refunds part of your multi-policy premiums based on remaining claim-free. You need to have both your auto insurance and your homeowners insurance with ANPAC in order to qualify. After you go three years without a claim for either your auto or your home, you will receive cash back of 25% of your first year’s premium. Each subsequent year will also reward you with 25% cash back provided you continue to have no claims. An additional eligibility requirement is that comprehensive and collision is carried on at least one policy and the program is only available in some states. Automotive claims for labor or towing and homeowners claims for earthquake or identity theft are not factored into the program and will not affect your Ca$hBack refund.

Condominium owners and renters can obtain coverage through ANPAC for personal property. In addition to theft your property is protected against aircraft, fire, glass breakage, explosion, hail, lightning, riot, smoke, vandalism, vehicles, water overflow, and windstorm. Condominium owners also have Loss of Use coverage and Accidental Death coverage for you or a resident relative who is younger than twenty-years of age.
